We noticed in the past week that we went off on a little tangent about classic television from the 1980s and 90s, so we thought we might bring it back to the Golden Age for a bit. On that note, here's something newsworthy about a true icon of the good ol' days.
Happy birthday Bob Hope! A little over a week ago, May 29 to be exact, would have been Hope's 104th birthday. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2003 at the amazing age of 100. Hope was always a comedian, even when had no control over it: he was the victim of two premature obituaries on separate occasions; in 1998, his prepared obituary was mistakenly released by the Associated Press, and in 2003, along with other celebrities, CNN posted his prepared obituary on their website. Even when he was on his death bed he didn't lose his wit; when asked by his wife where he wanted to be buried, he replied, "surprise me."
Many memorials were put in place to commemorate his life and his achievements: The PGA Tour's Bob Hope Classic, formerly the Desert Classic; Bob Hope Square, at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine; Bob Hope Airport, formerly the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport; and even an asteroid, Asteroid 2829 bobhope, among many other things.
